Summer 2007 - End of Session Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The 2007 Legislative Session formally closed with the bang of the gavel on May 22; the final day is known as Sine Die. On what is traditionally a ceremonial day, lawmakers convened to do some necessary business: providing a way to address the ongoing needs of those people and communities devastated by tornado -- right here in the 33rd District! It was an honor to carry the legislation, and I’m relieved we were able to address this critical issue before we adjourned for the summer.

Overall, I was pleased with the results of the session. We were able to do some good things for retirees, for low income Kansans and for businesses, and we managed to craft a responsible budget for FY 2008. We kept the promises we made to public schools last year, with a sharp eye on the future impact of the budget decisions we made this year.

In this newsletter, I will outline some of the major legislation passed this session. If you have questions or concerns about these or any other issues, please feel free to me for more information.

I look forward to seeing many of you over the summer and fall while I am back home in our district.
